Goueslard switches to Blancpain Endurance Series

Multiple Le Mans Series GT1 champion Patrice Goueslard will switch to the new Blancpain Endurance Series this season after signing with Team SOFREV ASP to drive one of its new Ferrari 458 Italias.

The Frenchman has won the LMS GT1 crown in each of the past three seasons, twice in a Luc Alphand Aventures Corvette and last year in a Larbre Competition Saleen, but will now concentrate on GT3 machinery in the new series which includes four three-hour races and the Spa 24 Hours.

The 45-year-old will share one of the team’s two Ferraris with former Superleague Formula racer and current Pescarolo Team Le Mans Series driver Julien Jousse and fellow Frenchman and ex-Luc Alphand GT1 driver Jerome Policand.

“I’ve just completed five seasons in the LMS GT1 class and won three titles, so I wanted to do something else,” explained Goueslard. “I’ve decided to race in the only GT specific series that meets my requirements.

“There are many car manufacturers racing (in the Blancpain Series), but on paper the Ferrari 458 has many advantages: it’s pretty compact, agile and with good aerodynamics.”

Goueslard has driven a range of GT machinery during his career including Porsches, Dodge Vipers, Corvettes and the Saleen and is confident he can challenge for overall wins and the GT Pro Cup title this year.

“In Monza, the competition will be intense, with no less than 10-15 cars capable of winning, but the objective is to run at the front and challenge for overall victory,” he said.

“Jerome has extensive experience in the sport, with 13 participations in the Le Mans 24 Hours, while Julien recently joined Pescarolo Sport and won his first prototype race in the LMS, so if the Ferrari is reliable the results should come.”
